As a Data Engineer for our Healthcare Economics team , you will work on cost savings initiatives for the company. You would be helping with the underlying data needed for those analyses, making the day-to-day work for the analysts quicker, easier, and higher quality. Projects will be more than just tasks to complete; they’ll come with the story of how the data and output will be used. You will be close enough to the end user to see your work go from acquisition to the final deliverable, from the analyst to a provider, or internal customer. You will be working closely with users of the data, to ensure that it’s in the format that is workable, accurate, and efficient by taking the existing data infrastructure within our department and engineering a streamlined process. You will be able to see the fruit of your labor as it’s used to make meaningful, impactful decisions.

What you’ll do

  • Create, modify, and test the code that constructs the data sets that drive our capabilities

  • Design, run, and optimize ETL processes, create data models and pipelines

  • Work closely with the business to understand the needs, pace, and direction for our business partners, translate these needs into requirements and specifications, and maintain contact with the customers throughout project completion

  • Troubleshoot technical issues as they arise

  • Collaborate with analysts and other engineers to further understand business problems

  • Perform thorough peer design and code reviews

What you’ll bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering or other technical/quantitative discipline

  • Working knowledge of Python or another modern programming language

  • Ability to use ETL tools (e.g. SSIS, Datastage, Informatica)

  • Desire to continuously learn new skills related to data engineering, programming, and automation

  • Ability to explain technical concepts to less technical colleagues and audiences

  • Solid analytical and technical writing skills with the ability to define business problems

  • Ideal candidates have the following additional knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Two (2) years’ experience in technical/analytic functions including strong SQL capabilities, familiarity with different RDBMS, database design and theory, row vs. column-oriented database concepts, programming principles

  • Knowledge and experience with analytical and visualization tools like Excel and Tableau

  • Well versed in Microsoft languages and technologies (Visual Studio, C#, VBA), as well as version control tools

  • Familiarity with healthcare specific regulatory requirements for data management

  • Experience providing data integration services within healthcare organizations
